Imagine for a moment, a dystopic future where the Earth has been exhausted of it's natural resources. Drastic measures are in place to ensure the survival of the Human species. Physical ownership is entirely banned, everything must be rented. This includes furniture, clothing and other comodities.
Since everything in this reality is rented, everything is standardised. Everyone gets the same, no customisation, no differentiation. This is where VR comes in. As the citizens become disgruntled with their reality, they choose to move to a virtual one, the only place they are allowed to own things, and to make them their own. My team designed and produced a VR experience that puts us in these citizens' shoes.
To bring this experience even more into reality, I designed and produced this chair. Made from two standardised steel profiles (sheet metal and hot rolled "L" profile), this chair is as bog-standard as they come. I wanted it to speak for itself, make the viewer of the experience feel the reality we created.
The final result can be seen below. The video is 360º so scroll around for a better view.
